Taking on the #WellaEdTakeover with Stevie Smith

Scroll through @stevieannesmith’s Instagram and it won’t take long to realize she’s a Master Color Expert—and a pretty amazing person! Stevie Smith isn’t just on the ‘gram for selfies or promo: she’s there to share, connect and learn.

“I see social media as an opportunity to cultivate a network of like-minded people who support and encourage each other. It’s a community.”

When Stevie heard about the #WellaEdTakeover contest, she jumped at the chance to enter—and won! As the big news sunk in, she felt a range of emotions. “I was flattered and honored, then excited…then petrified! You know: the usual feelings when starting a creative process.” (We’ve been there!)

Before she knew it, the time came to get in the zone. “Once I started to make plans, I found my confidence again and decided to just have fun with it!” She brushed up on her editing skills, preselected music for videos, and reached out to models. “I called up a couple of cuties that I owed some hair services to and asked them if they were available and down to let me take their pics and broadcast to 500,000 people!” Hello, Insta-goals!

Stevie saw her @wellaeducation takeover as a chance to share the #WellaLove with both her fellow up-and-coming stylists and her fellow Wella Design Team members. She took us behind the scenes at her Chicago salon, Smith & Davis, to show how Wella fits into her creative vision and daily life. She also let her hair down and showed off her punk rock side with some head-banging hair flips! The comments came pouring in with questions for Stevie, excitement to sneak a #BTS peek, and a whole lot of love! It was a truly inspiring connection.

As for where Stevie finds her inspo as an artist, “I always draw inspiration from my clients and models themselves. Rather than trying to find people to fit into my concept, I like working to find what is most suitable for them.” Spoken like a true master of her craft.
